STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's Percussion Club is welcoming an internationally-acclaimed marimba soloist and educator for a free master class and concert.

Andy Harnsberger of Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, will lead an 11 a.m. Wednesday [April 29] workshop at the university's Band and Chorus Rehearsal Hall on Hardy Road. The program is open to all.

Technique and interpretation will be focus areas of his instruction.

During his 7:30 p.m. solo recital Wednesday, Harnsberger will perform his own marimba compositions including "Words Unspoken," "April Sun," "Palmetto Moon" and "Phoenix."

A Virginia Commonwealth University bachelor's and master's of music graduate, Harnsberger is assistant professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee University. He also holds a musical arts doctorate degree in performance and literature as well as the Performer's Certificate from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

In addition to presenting numerous solo recitals, clinics and master classes throughout the United States, Harnsberger is a highly-coveted percussionist who has performed in a variety of settings across Australia, Europe and Japan.

Along with the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµPercussion Club and Student Activities Association, Harnsberger's visit is sponsored by Malletech Instruments and SABIAN Cymbals, Ltd.

Led by current music students, the percussion club is a campus organization that seeks to raise funds and awareness of percussion-related events. Many of the club's members also are involved with the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµPercussion Ensemble, an academic unit administered by Baker.
